Since our last post, so far Life has won another bet with life. Even though yesterday I took him to the vet for some X-rays (which we did), I also noticed he hasn’t been urinating all day long. The vet placed a urinary catheter, but still no urine went out, only blood. After a few investigations and attempts to stabilize him (he was very apathetic and had a 40.5 degrees fever), Life underwent emergency surgery. There was no certainty that he’ll survive the anesthesia or the mess likely to be discovered inside him. After opening him up, the doctor came out to tell me that she’s seriously considering euthanasia for him, as she was appaled by what she had seen. She found it hard to believe that he was still alive. His bladder had an old fissure which, as he had lain down in the same position, not moving for almost a month, his body tried to cover by creating a gelatinous wall around the bladder, collecting there urine, blood and other toxic substances. His entire stomach was full with urine and blood. His urethras were 10 times larger than normal, his spleen also enlarged, and his intestines weren’t taking the normal course. But, taking into account Life’s will to live, his determination and the pains he must have endured so far, the doctors decided to try and fix him. The surgery took approximately 4 hours. During the night Life felt OK, but in the morning he was again eliminating blood instead of urine. We took him once again to the clinic, they did some irrigations to him and now he seems better and better. He’s eating, he’s drinking, he’s present and we can only hope we won’t see further complications. He is still in a critical stage, we hope he’ll get over it too
