Do you love animals, but aren’t you ready to take a long time engagement? Help us with foster instead!
Many of the animals taken need your help to regain trust in humans, thus offering them a real chance of adoption.
Why is foster so important?
Animals’ behavior is a consequence of situations and occurrences they were involved into, events that are not most times pleasant ones.
Either they do not have yet a proper age to be adopted, or they need recovery following a medical intervention, or they are within the nursing period or in need for social life, by foster care animals receive love and stability, both mental and physical. When an animal was held into foster he is more confident and sociable; and, subsequently, the transition to the new home will be much easier!
How long should I keep the animal into foster?
Generally, the period varies from 2 to 4 weeks. The time period could vary, depending on the needs of each pet.
What pets generally need foster?
Orphan cubs:
First months of life put their mark on the behavior and character of adult animal. Being offered a stable environment and surrounded by much love, the pet will develop harmoniously and will not develop relationship problems with humans.
Mothers with cubs:
Fresh mothers, both cats and dogs, need always silence and relaxation. The shelter environment is very stressful for them, possibly leading to the lack of milk. Furthermore, due to weak sanitization of shelters’ compartments, cubs are exposed to diseases such as parvovirus, which can provoke their death.
Adult dogs and cats that need socialization:
For some adult dogs/ cats that suffered various traumas, life in shelter can do more harm than good. Due to the small number of volunteers, and also to the great number of animals we take care of, the time does not allow us to properly care each one of them. Many of them are just scared, but others are really traumatized. Taking such animal into foster helps him gaining self confidence, but also a better relation towards humans. IN THESE CASES, WITHOUT FOSTER, SUCH ANIMALS ARE CONVICTED TO LIVE FOREVER IN THE SHELTER!
Dogs or cats who have suffered medical interventions:
As you well know, dogs or cats who have suffered medical interventions are not ready to be offered for adoption, but they need foster so that their recovery would be much faster. When they are completely recovered, they shall be ready to return to the shelter.
