Most people coming back from holiday bring with them a souvenir. A postcard, a freezer magnet, a pen. Robi volunteers bring back… animals.
One of our volunteers was on her way to Bucharest, coming from Tulcea. A small stop at a terrace near the highway. Among the adult dogs, always present at provincial terraces, appeared a tiny, black, thin, crouching, tail between her legs little thing.
She didn’t even have the courage to go near the two occupied tables where the other dogs were begging, maybe, maybe someone will throw them a crust of bread.
“Where she came from? From where they always come from. “Good will” people abandon them, because they say they’ll get fed here. “ said the irritated waitress. “ Oh, there were more of them, but the others were all run over by cars”.
After a bit of convincing (it wasn’t our volunteer’s car) and a short (obstacle) race after the puppy, completely terrorized that someone was actually paying attention to her, she ended up on the back seat of the car, where she slept all the way, on our volunteer’s lap.
At home, after the proper deworming and bath, and after the bowl of food that was devoured in one second (after she tried to knock over the garbage can, because that’s where she knows that food comes from) she fell asleep in a corner, ON a shoe box. Because that’s how she knows she should sleep.
